Unique Publications

These Unique Publications are illustrated short stories exhibited in handmade books.

Make or Break

Make or Break was a short story inspired by postcards sent from people on holiday in Margate. The names on the postcards were used as characters, the images for the setting and the brief messages informed the story line. The story is illustrated with images derived from the front of the postcards and the book is contained in a stripey fabric reminiscent of the deck chairs seen along the beach.

-The story follows a young married woman and the difficult decision she has to make after a failed attempt to save her marriage with a holiday in Margate.

There is also a miniature version of Make or Break. It is illustrated with fragments of an image and the story is told in a series of four word phrases.

The Pink Fern

The Pink Fern is a short story inspired by an idle thought whilst driving back from Wales. 'What would happen if for one year only all fern was pink?' It is illustrated with prints made from fern leaves and is bound in a precious book that fits nicely in the palm of your hand.

Hate Mail

Hate Mail is a collection of letters I received when living in a rented house in Leek. I assume they were for someone who lived at the property before me, but I was intrigued by them and saved them. Some of the images on the stamps are actually really nice.

The Paper Cafe

The Paper Cafe publication is the first incarnation of this current project. It is a proposal for The Paper Cafe utilising found advertisement images. It gives you an idea of what to expect when you come and visit The Paper Cafe but is so small it would fit in your wallet!
